Hands on Globe

A whole new world is wide open to members of Washington DC Alumnae Chapter (WDCAC) as it's members intends to learn, grow and expand their cultural awareness. The International Awareness and Involvement Committee is revved up and ready to explore what the world has to offer as it focuses on the International component of the Five Point Thrust. This enthusiastic committee wants to have increased cultural awareness in the local communities as well as internationally and to have an impact in the international community and make the world a better place by conducting service projects to benefit those in need.

Plans for the upcoming year include:
- Finishing what we started by establishing and continuing international outreach started many years ago by our Grand Chapter in South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho.
- Creating and establishing signature international programs and
- Creating a culture of international awareness within the WDCAC and local Washington, DC community.

In 2008-09 our activities included:

Bless My Feet Project - From November through December 30, 2008, donations were made to purchase socks and shoes for children in sub Sahara Africa through First Giving. Donations can still be made at the First Giving website.

Well Women Package Project- In March 2009 during the chapter's Sisterhood month, feminine hygiene products for teenage girls in Africa, who do not to attend school because they donate have the basic personal supplies needed so that they can feel comfortable at school will be collected and/or donations will be accepted.
